Brunswick East based artist Simon Beuve transforms overlooked urban textures into compelling abstract compositions. His mural Pegasus 25, located in the gym at Local: Box Hill, reflects Simon’s fascination with the markings and rhythms of city life, while also responding to the energy, movement and fluidity of the space it occupies.
Simon works by layering and removing emulsion paints, allowing textures, shapes and colour fields to emerge organically. Overlapping forms move across the surface, echoing the impermanence and dynamism of urban environments. The muted palette draws from surrounding architecture, helping the mural sit naturally within the built environment while still holding presence within the space.
Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, Pegasus 25 captures a moment in motion. The composition feels in flux, with forms appearing and dissolving in a way that mirrors both the shifting nature of urban spaces and the continuous movement within the gym itself. The work becomes less about a single story and more about an ongoing state of change.
“Its fluid forms echo the way stories shift, overlap and co-exist, reflecting Box Hill’s diverse identity.” – Simon.
Each glance reveals new relationships between colour, shape and rhythm. As residents move through the space, the mural shifts with them, offering a different reading depending on pace, position and attention.
By bringing urban abstraction into a shared environment, Simon’s work becomes part of the everyday experience of the building, reflecting the energy of the space while inviting moments of pause within it.
