Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest impression. Just ask Melbourne artist Wendy Dawson.
Working with colour, line and repetition, Wendy creates intricate artworks that reveal more the closer you look.
At first glance, you might notice a beautiful arrangement of colours and patterns. Step closer and you'll discover layer upon layer of carefully placed marks, each contributing to something wonderfully complex.
Wendy has been creating art through Arts Project Australia since 2008, developing a distinctive style using paint and felt-tip pen on paper.
Her work celebrates the beauty of repetition and the possibilities of simple materials.
Wendy is part of an organisation with a special place in Melbourne's creative community.
Founded in 1974, Arts Project Australia supports artists with intellectual disability and neurodivergent artists to develop their practices, exhibit their work and participate in contemporary art.
Today, its studio and gallery are based at Collingwood Yards.
Wendy's work has been exhibited at Melbourne Art Fair, joining the work of other talented artists contributing to Australia's creative landscape.

At Local: South Melbourne, you'll find Wendy's artworks in the boardroom.
The works form part of her Untitled Collection, bringing rich colour, intricate lines and textured patterns into a space designed for people to gather.
And there's something particularly lovely about their lack of titles.
Without a name to influence your interpretation, you're free to see whatever catches your eye.
Perhaps it's a particular colour combination, the rhythm of the lines or a small detail you hadn't noticed before.

We love art that rewards curiosity.
Wendy's work is a reminder that something doesn't need to be loud or oversized to make an impact.
Sometimes all it takes is a closer look.
Her artworks are part of the South Melbourne Art Series, bringing creativity and individuality into the everyday spaces shared by our residents.
